Delhi’s Air Crisis lead to Ola Foundation
Motivated by Delhi’s persistent air pollution, Ola founder Bhavish Aggarwal set ambitious goals to transform India’s vehicle industry and reduce dependence on petrol and diesel vehicles. This vision led to the launch of Ola Electric on August 15, 2021, pushing for cleaner mobility across the country.
Leading the Electric Scooter Market
Today, Ola Electric holds nearly 30-34% market share in India’s electric scooter segment, making it one of the largest participants in the industry. In the financial year 2024-25, Ola sold over 3.4 lakh electric scooters within the first nine months, showing rapid growth and strong demand for electric two-wheelers. The market as a whole has seen a 40-49% annual compound growth rate, with electric scooter sales now accounting for 6% of overall two-wheeler sales—a figure that could reach 12% by 2026.

Gigafactory: Expanding Production Capacity
To meet increasing demand, Ola set up a giant 500-acre Gigafactory in Tamil Nadu. Upon full completion, it will be the world’s largest manufacturing facility for electric two-wheelers, capable of producing up to 2 million scooters annually. The plant also focuses on advanced lithium-ion battery cell production, supporting innovation and local sourcing.
Building Nationwide Charging Infrastructure
Ola Electric has prioritized charging infrastructure. As of 2025, the company operates over 1,000 fast charging stations and aims to expand to 10,000 stations soon, making electric vehicle ownership more convenient. These charging points are located in key urban and intercity areas, supporting both long-distance and daily urban travel needs.
Transforming From Cab Service to Electric Giant
Ola has strategically repositioned itself, evolving from a cab company into a leader in India’s electric mobility sector. By investing in manufacturing, technology, and infrastructure, the company is accelerating EV adoption and shaping the future of sustainable transportation nationwide.
Year-on-Year Market Growth and Outlook
The Indian EV industry continues to record robust year-on-year growth, with more brands entering the space and government policies supporting clean mobility. Ola’s early and aggressive push into electric scooters and charging networks has been a key driver for more consumers and businesses to switch to electric vehicles.
With persistent product innovation, expanding infrastructure, and environmental awareness, Ola Electric is set to remain a major force in India’s shift toward clean and sustainable mobility for years to come.
