Indore Leads the Way
When it comes to cleanliness, Indore has already established itself as number one. Now, the city is making headlines again by becoming the first city to provide a digital address system. This innovation is the focus of today’s article, part of our ongoing “90 Days of Exploring Indian Tech” series.
The Problem of Locating Addresses
Most of us have experienced the frustration of finding a friend or relative’s house in a new neighborhood. Often, we need to stop and ask multiple people for directions, sometimes wandering around before finally reaching the destination. This problem is even more common for delivery partners from companies like Flipkart, Amazon, Swiggy, Blinkit, and others. As cities expand and populations grow, with new residential and commercial areas developing quickly, the challenge of accurate navigation has only increased.

The Solution: DIGIPIN – Digital Postal Index Number aka Digital Address
To address these issues, the Indore Municipal Corporation has launched a new initiative: DIGIPIN (Digital Postal Index Number). Under this system, each home, office, and building will receive a QR-coded plate. By scanning this code, anyone can instantly view the exact coordinates of the location.
This innovation makes it much easier to reach the correct address, whether you’re a resident, a visitor, or a delivery partner. No more confusion or wasted time—just scan the QR code and navigate directly to the spot.

Smart City Initiative and Future Expansion
Currently, the DIGIPIN project is being tested as a pilot under the Smart City initiative in select areas of Indore. The plan is to gradually expand this system across the entire city and, eventually, to other cities throughout India.
In the future, just as every citizen has an Aadhaar card, every address will have its own unique DIGIPIN, revolutionizing how we locate places in our country.
